(Alestle) – Thomas Schwanke, 18, a freshman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was found injured this morning at 7:40 a.m. in the basement of a dormitory on campus, after police believed he had fallen anywhere from two to ten stories down a trash chute the previous night.

Witnesses said they allegedly saw Schwanke drinking earlier that morning.

Officials are not discussing the condition of Scwanke, but he is being treated at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

“The incident again raises concern about alcohol abuse on campus,” says Mary Rouse, the Dean of students at the University.
